Bulgarian membership in the euro area from 1 January 2026 remains a key priority for us. This is stated by the Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova before the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meeting that is taking place today in Brussels.

The entire government continues its active work in order to enable our country to take its well-deserved place in the euro area. This is extremely important, as in fact thus will provide us the opportunity to maintain our economic and financial stability during these extremely turbulent geopolitical times, added Temenuzhka Petkova.

She stated that within the framework of all regular meetings held at the level of the Eurogroup and ECOFIN Council meetings, progress of Bulgaria with respect to our preparations for adopting the Euro is discussed. The next important step ahead is related to the convergence reports, which we expect to be released in early June, and the European institutions have confirmed their commitment to following the previously determined schedule and plan.
