Bulgaria receives the first tranche of the national Recovery and Resilience Plan amounting to EUR 1.37 billion

16.12.2022

The funds under the first tranche of the national Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) amounting to EUR 1.37 billion (BGN 2.6 billion) have been disbursed. The European Commission has accepted as successfully fulfilled all 22 milestones and targets that were included in the first payment request and disbursed the first payment out of the total EUR 5.69 billion foreseen for our country.

The funds we receive will enable the continuation of the activities already launched to implement the key reforms for our country. The funding will support the implementation of capital investments in areas such as energy, health, education, transport, sustainable economic development. As of 16.12.2022, the expenditures incurred under the RRP amount to BGN 46.3 million.

At present all institutions are making efforts to fulfil 66 milestones and targets, 22 of which are related to legislative initiatives included in the second request for payment amounting to EUR 724 million that is foreseen for the first quarter of 2023. The adoption by the National Assembly of the 22 bills, which the government has previously agreed with the Commission, is of key importance for sending the second payment request and any potential significant change thereof puts at risk the receipt of the second payment under the PRP.
